Observative & reasoning

One more occasion in which I failed. 2 things:
-I failed to see things/events in a logical sequences, cause-effect. While A is very likely the cause of B and B very likely lead to C, at the spot I only notice B (which is very obvious) but was not alert enough to get at A & C immediately. Again I end up in saying the obvious/nonsense.
-I failed to get beyond what is said. I did not make sense out of it. So I may know but I dont understand them. This clearly is a failure. But if it is so obvious, why do I commit this failure so many times?
Is it because I havent installed in my mind the curiosity to understand them?
